About Kevin Rau |
I'm the author of the H.E.R.O. series of novels in the SciFi/Superhero genre. I also do character art (as seen on the rest of the page here).
I've launched the Author Interview pages to promote my fellow authors, and hopefully create some cross-links back to their websites or social networks within the interview.
Interview with Kat Flannery
Kat Flannery Interview Date: 5/2/2012 |
Biography
Kat Flannery has had her writing published in numerous periodicals. She's received her diploma for Creative, Freelance, and Business Writing. She is co-owner of Prairie Dog Publishing, where she devotes her spare time as head of Marketing and Communications. CHASING CLOVERS is Kat's first published novel, and she is currently hard at work on her next. When not writing, or spending time with her family,Kat's on the couch with a hot chocolate and a good book.
When did you start writing, and was there a significant
event that prompted you to do so?
I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. I grew up in a house with lots of music. Every weekend we’d go to the lake and my grandparents, uncles and aunts would sing and play instruments. It is through that upbringing I found my love of storytelling. Each song you hear is a story, one that can move you to tears, laughter, or anger, just like a book.
Kev's response: Why do I have a sudden vision of a heavy metal band rockin' out in the wilderness, with their long hair all blowing back in the wind, telling some kind of story somewhere in the headbanging?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
(Assuming said power would be reasonably "powerful.")
Oh, I think I’d like to be invisible. That would be fun.
Kev's response: Hmm, a "sneeky" person!
Do you have a favorite superhero from novels, comics, or
movies?
Batman. I never read comics, but I did watch all the Batman
TV shows, and movies. My middle son is a comic fanatic. He loves Batman,
Spiderman, Wolverine, etc
Where do you get your inspiration for writing? What
motivates you?
I toss around ideas all of the time, but I get my inspiration from music. I have to be passionate about what I write, it has to be something that will keep me up late into the night writing.
Kev's response: I hereby declare myself old. Not often do I stay up late into the night for much of anything these days! Doh!
Do you pre-plan your stories, or are you a
by-the-seat-of-the-pants style writer?
My process is a bit annoying. I pre-plan my story, however when I get to about the middle of the book I cannot write any longer. The story is gone. It is then that one of the characters from that book comes forth, and I write their story. I go through this process every time I start a new manuscript.
Kev's response: Perhaps the voices in your head need to be handed some megaphones!
Do you write only when inspired, or do you have a set
schedule where you sit down to write?
I try to write every day. I have to or nothing would ever get done.
Do you have a favorite genre to write in? To read?
I like to write historical fiction and I enjoy reading it. However, I do read almost anything.
What do you enjoy the most about writing?
The ability to create stories that will touch my reader’s lives in some way.
Is there any part of writing that you don't enjoy?
I’m not fond of the first draft. This is a long drawn out, bang your head against the wall, process. I’m much better at revisions.
Can you tell me something odd about yourself?
I cannot write without the sound of my foot heater. No matter if its 100 degrees outside, I have it on.
Kev's response: That's lizard DNA in you. I'm telling ya!
Do you write one story at a time, or do you have several
novels in the works at one time?
I write one story at a time, but throughout the process ideas will come and I write them down for the next book.
Where do you see the future as far as paper books versus
digital e-books?
Well, social media is increasing and I see the e-books becoming more popular than they are now. With that being said I cannot see paperbacks ever disappearing either. Who doesn’t like the smell of a new book?
What are your current projects?
I just finished my second novel, and have just begun the editing stage. I hope to see it released in the fall.
Kev's response: That's great news!
Do you have any online sites where readers can find out
more about you (and your books)?
Yes, they can go to my website,
www.katflannery-author.com
or my publisher’s website,
www.imajinbooks.com Thank you for having me on your site
today.
Kev's response: Kat, thanks for joining me! I wish you fortune on your current novel, and the forthcoming one. I hope it makes it out in the fall. comments powered by Disqus
